The cornerstone of all building systems in modern times, building engineering system is a field of study that involves the integration of a wide variety of technologies. It is an umbrella term that brings together an enormous number of engineering disciplines. Since engineering as a subject of education has always focused on single discipline activities, it is building systems engineering that club them all together under one header. What’s interesting is not building an engineering system as a whole but its many components. There are many types of it, some basic and some advanced. Let’s take a look at some of its most interesting types.

Civil Engineering

Let’s start with civil engineering, the most common type. As many of you must know, this is the branch of engineering which is related to routing of site utilities and is therefore directly linked to building systems. More elaborately, it deals with stormwater piping, natural gas distribution, sanitization and more. Civil engineers are required to work with landscape architects in building facilities and improving their surroundings, thereby creating an infrastructure to support the property.

Electrical Engineering

Contrary to the popular misgiving, electrical engineering has little to do with lights and more to do with life safety data sheets services company systems. Yes of course, lights are a part of this discipline and an integral one at that, electrical engineering is more pinpointed to intelligent devices like fire alarm system and home automation. Electrical engineers oversee the power distribution in properties. A vital segment of study, it is to electrical engineering that older buildings owe their modernized power distribution that enables the use of all current-day technologies.

Mechanical engineering

Another commonly known discipline of engineering, this one is related to HVAC systems and other big machineries. An integral part of building systems, mechanical energy deals with the integrity of systems as well as their energy usage.

Energy Engineering

Energy engineering is exactly what you think. It deals with energy, but more with energy efficiency and alternative energies. A big part of energy engineering today is solar photovoltaics. In today’s time when the consciousness for energy efficiency is growing more and more among people owing to mounting utility costs and environmental concerns, this branch of engineering is gaining pace. For some years, it has been helping people keep the energy performance of their properties down to a minimum.

Plumbing Engineering

Plumbing is essential in any property. But plumbing engineering is not just about sinks and toilets. It goes well beyond those to include other components of plumbing such as water heating systems, storm pipes, roof drainage and more.

Technology Engineering

Technology engineering is exactly what you think it is. A subset of the electrical engineering discipline, technology engineering is the study of miscellany products from CCTV cameras to security and card access and more.

Structural Engineering

Another major part of building engineering system, this one is directly related to columns, beams, trusses and such structural elements of building. Its focus is to ensure the structural stability of a property.
